UMD, School of Medicine

In the early 1970s, leaders in medicine, education, and politics from the Duluth community and the University launched an effort to bring more physicians to Minnesota's small or rural underserved communities.  In 1972, a unique two-year medical school opened specifically to meet those needs - the University of Minnesota-Duluth, School of Medicine.

In the 2003 rankings of all US medical schools, the Duluth School of Medicine ranked #8 in Rural Medicine and #14 in Primary Care. -US News and World Report

Residents and faculty participate in the education of medical students through programs such as Clinical Rounds & Clerkship, Family Practice Club Skill Stations, Shadowing, Day In The Life of a Family Practice Resident, Mini-Internships, Clerkships, Internal Medicine Teaching Rounds and Obstetric Teaching Rounds.
