St. Luke's is the hub of a regional health care system, offering a
full range of health care services. The system consists of a
hospital and a growing network of primary and specialty clinics
located in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Founded in 1881 as Duluth's first hospital, St.
Luke's is a nonprofit, community-based, nondenominational hospital
governed by a voluntary board of directors. In 1997, St. Luke's,
Northstar Physicians (a network of 90 primary care physicians), and
Northland Medical Associates
(a network of 78 specialists) formed the CareNorth Health System.
St. Luke's Regional Trauma Center
St. Luke’s Trauma Program is the region’s leader in the treatment of
trauma patients. In 1975, St. Luke’s established the region’s first
trauma program. Five years later, the hospital earned the federal
designation as the Regional Trauma Center for the 17-county region
of northeastern Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin and the upper
peninsula of Michigan. Recognizing this tradition of leadership and
excellence in trauma, the American College of Surgeons verified St.
Luke’s as a Level II Trauma Center in 1990. The Trauma Program was
re-verified in 1994, 1997 and 2000.

CareNorth Health System
In 1997, St. Luke’s partnered with the primary care clinics of
Northstar Physicians and the specialty care clinics of Northland
Medical Associates to form the CareNorth Health System.
St. Luke's Center for Diagnostic Imaging

national radiology practice. CDI is a leader in providing
